The Brief Student Reading:

Melanin is the biochemical that makes Black people black. All people have some degree of melanin in their bodies but black people have the most.

Dr. Llaila Afrika says “Black people must ‘know thyself’ and to know yourself is to know Melanin" (Afrika, 2009, 5). Our five senses are "converted into a liquid" by melanin and transferred to the brain (20).

Watch, The REAL Magic of Melanin: Amazing Things You Didn't Know!, by Chime (HairCrush).

Melanin is produced by the pineal gland in the brain and the Kemites (Ancient Egyptians) represented the area around the pineal gland with their Eye of Ra depiction (the third eye). Melanin is brown or black and is sometimes called the black dot.

Melanin absorbs sunlight – and other types of energy – and is present throughout the body. Sunlight increases Melanin production while environmental pollution, including computer usage, processed foods and drug use, can decrease melanin production. Melanin civilizes people and the benefits are endless.

According to prnewswire.com, synthetic melanin was worth $350 a gram in 2015 and it is now priced higher than gold.

In 1920, William John Young, of the Australian Institute of Tropical Medicine, released a revised version of his study entitled, The Extraction of Melanin from Skin with Dilute Alkali. If synthetic melanin is worth more than gold, imagine how much real melanin is worth.
