How old were you when you began planning for your future career? Next question, at what age do you wish would have started planning for you future at– if you had the choice?



For many talented adults, the truth is, their parents put them in several activities when they were young children and they were able to choose the activities they enjoyed the most to continue pursuing. Some of these adults became very successful at building careers and starting businesses based on the hobbies they’ve enjoyed, the talents they discovered they had, and the abilities they honed while engaging in personal growth.


The Career Writing Journal is a great tool for young tweens and teens to begin purposefully planning for their desired future as they reflect on their own self-interests and true passions.

Please be aware that the Appendixes A, B, C & E are templates and should be copied before use. The HBCU list in the digital version is clickable and all the links are connected to their applicable HBCUs.

There are several writing tasks to complete in every chapter and some research may be required if students are unsure of what they want to do or how start on the road to success. If you cannot print out the journal, it is recommended that your student keep a notebook/journal while reading to answer the writing prompts as they read and think about them.
