The Elis Clain Group (ECG) would like to introduce you to the new ECG Black History Month (BHM) Series for teen and tween learners.
The first activity, The Original People, is free and is available for download in the ECG Shop. The ECG BHM Series comprises 20 BHM activities encompassing the 20 school days of February. The activities are meant to supplement your student’s knowledge on rarely discussed black history topics from an Afro-centric perspective.
The activities contain a vocabulary section to ensure students are comprehending the material, a reading section which includes much of the vocabulary and introduces students to the topic, a STEM section which requires students to scientifically think about the material and may include vocabulary, and a writing section which requires students to reflect on the material or answer the prompt using evidence or by making inferences.
The first activity, The Original People, informs students of how the different races came to exist by way of the Original Black peoples.

The Brief Student Reading:
The original woman and man, AKA, the first modern humans to walk the earth, were black people from Africa. All other peoples (including white Europeans, and yellow Asians) came from black Africans.
The mixed races, such as the modern American Indians, the brown American Latinos and the brown Arabs, are a mixture of black African, white European, and yellow Asian. The red Native American was mixed with black African and yellow Asian.
Black Africans were the first people to migrate to every continent on earth, including the New World. As the Africans settled into the different lands, they began to develop features which allowed them to survive in different climates. Every continent has evidence of the early black presence in the regions these original people settled and developed. Unfortunately, those early black migrants were supplanted by the different races who developed later.
End of Brief Student Reading!
